Once again, we’ve reached the end of the school year. Not only are we stressed about turning in all of our final paperwork and essays, but AP exams are taking over our lives and the threat of our upcoming finals linger.

These are possibly the most challenging few weeks as we can practically smell summer and are burnt out. With that said, here are a few words of encouragement to get you through these final weeks from someone who often procrastinates:

  1. It may be a stressful week, but don’t push yourself too hard. If you need breaks from studying for two hours straight, watch a couple of youtube videos so your brain won’t explode. Final exam reviews are really hard, and it’s going to consist of learning a lot of information if you slacked off throughout the semester. I would make sure you don’t stay up late, because a good night’s rest will do better than staying up the entire night finishing your review. You won’t be able to memorize or comprehend all the material at once. Balance is key – ensure that you reward learning with break times to recharge and relax.
  2. Set distractions aside. I’m not saying you should isolate yourself from all your friends, but if you really want to succeed, put your distractions aside so you can take in what you’re learning. Breaks aside, wasting your time on video games, Twitter, Instagram or your favorite TV show can wait. Plus, your friends should probably be studying too, so why distract them and yourself? Save the social time until after you’ve handed in your test. That’s what summer will be for.
  3. If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Teachers understand that you don’t remember everything when you have seven classes to keep up with. Friends can help you as well. I know for a fact that my friends can help me prioritize for finals, because they know what is more important to learn than other things in the class. You’ll be surprised how much students help each other out whenever we are all in the same sinking boat.
  4. Once all the stress of these final exams are over with, you are more than welcome to reward yourself. Look forward to all of the things that are ahead if you power through. You could go out with your friends, buy yourself some things, or you can sleep and eat for the day. It’s really up to you. Whether or not you passed the final, you’ve gone an entire week cramming months of information in your head. So give yourself some credit.
