A Prince for a Princess

Prom court was announced on Tuesday, April 16. Ten seniors were voted on to the court, one of those being senior Josue Barrios.

His prom wishes came true when senior Bianca Rodriguez-Caskey asked him to prom in the competition gym with a sweet poster. The two met through the Special Rodeo, an event held for special needs students in the area, and now he sits at her lunch table along with senior Katie Lewis and junior Bryan Ruiz.

“He came in and sat at our lunch table one day. It was really cool, because he sat across from us and we clicked,” Katie explained. “He hugged me and said, ‘Hey, buddy!’ It felt like we instantly became friends.”

After talking with him, Bianca said that Josue didn’t expect anyone to ask him to prom, so that was when she made a poster with the help of friends and “promposed” in a big way.

Bianca said Josue calls her “little princess”, which is what inspired her to create the poster. He said yes.

After the promposal, it was Bianca’s idea for Katie to spread the word on Twitter before voting for court began. And it worked, because he was announced on court the following week.

All three of them have nothing but positive things to say about the experience.

Bianca said she was stoked to hear Josue made court. It took a lot of planning for them to fulfill all of his prom wishes. She said this was an exciting opportunity, because it’s important for all students to feel represented and to have a chance to have these types of experiences.

Now as a member of the court, Josue is most excited to win the title of prom king, as well as wear the purple court sash.

“I can’t wait to win the crown,” Josue said. “And dancing with Bianca and the girls.”

Both Bianca and Katie expressed how grateful they are to have met Josue and how they’re looking forward to the big night on April 27.

“He just deserves [being nominated for court] so much,” Katie said. “He has always wanted to be king; it was actually one of the first things he ever told me.”

The Morton Ranch High School prom king and queen will be announced at the dance on Saturday so stay tuned to hear the results.
